In response to industry demand Orton has partnered with the American Ceramic Society to offer the online course "Introduction to Refractory Compositions." The course will consist of four live 3-hour lectures to be held April 12,14, 19 and 21, 2022. The Couses will be held from 11:00am to 12:30 and 1:30 to 3:00pm ET. Course Description
​
This course addresses most of the significant refractory chemical compositions. The lectures emphasize raw materials, phase relationships, processing, and microstructural-property relationships. Postmortem analyses form industrial applications are also presented. The individual sessions are titled in the accompanying outline of the daily topics.
Who Will Benefit From This Course
​
Engineers, managers, contractors, purchasing agents, furnace operators, maintenance supervisors, and technicians who are involved in the manufacturing, marketing, research and development, or consumption of refractory materials will find this course beneficial. A high level technical or engineering background is not essential to take this course, although technical professionals will find the subject matter informative and useful.
Course Objectives

The objective of this course is to provide the participants with a basic knowledge of all common types of refractories. The lectures cover raw materials, chemistry, processing, and important properties. Microstructures are described and related to performance in industrial applications.
